BERNARD FOREST DE, a very eminent engineer, born in Catalonia in 1697. He was a brigadier-general in the French service, inspector-general of mines, and member of the academies of sciences at Paris and Berlin, and of the Royal Society of London. He died at Paris in 1761. His works on mathematics and military engineering are held in high estimation.
