REMI, a French poet, born at Nogent-le-Rotrou, in 1528. He lived in the family of René of Lorraine, Marquis of Elbeuf, and attended him in his expedition into Italy in 1557. Belleau was one of the seven poets of his time who were denominated the French Pleiadés. He died at Paris in 1577. His works were published at Paris in 1578 in 2 vols. 12mo.
