an Italian province of the kingdom of Sardinia. It is a mountainous district, bounded on the N. by Sesia, on the E. and S.E. by Vercelli, on the S.W. and W. by Ivrea, and on the N.W. by Aosta. Area 264 square miles; pop. in 1848, 130,691. The capital, from which the province derives its name, is on the banks of the rivers Cervo and Aurea, 38 miles N.E. of Turin.
