a market-town in the county of Bedford, forty-five miles from London. It is agreeably situated on the river Ivel, by which the town and neighbourhood are supplied with abundance of coal, timber, and merchandise. The land near it is remarkably prolific; and being cultivated chiefly as gardens, it yields abundant crops of culinary vegetables, and a large supply of seeds for the London seedsmen.
