PATRICK, descended from the earls of Fife in Scotland, was born in that county in the reign of James V. From the university of St Andrews he removed to that of Paris; and he afterwards proceeded to Bologna, where he was appointed professor of canon law. Having filled this office for several years with great reputation, he died in 1568. He was also distinguished as an orator, a poet, and a philosopher.
