GIULIO, an admirable engraver, born at Bologna about 1498. He studied painting under Lor. Sabbatini, but attained small proficiency in that branch. The freedom and expression, however, of his etching needle and burin are most excellent; and we owe to him engravings from the works of Michael Angelo, Raphael, Titian, and many other illustrious painters, that will always hang down his name as among the most eminent in that department of the arts.
