Hermann, a distinguished scholar and antiquary, born at Leeuwarden in Friesland, March 18, 1755. After having been rector of the Latin schools at Franeker and Deventer, in 1795 he was appointed to a chair in the university of Harderwyck. He was subsequently a professor at Groningen; and in 1807 he was appointed to the chair of history in the Athenæum at Amsterdam. Bosscha died on the 12th Aug. 1819. He was an excellent Latin poet, and the author of various works on classical subjects, besides translations, and a history of the revolution in Holland in 1813.
