Abbey Boyle, a town and parish of Ireland, in the county of Roscommon and barony of the same name, on the river Boyne, an affluent of the Shannon, 94 miles W.N.W. of Dublin. It has a church, four chapels, barracks, market-house, bridewell, union-poohouse, dispensary, and savings-bank. Previous to the Union it returned two members to the Irish parliament. It has some trade in grain, butter, and flax. Considerable remains of the abbey, an edifice of the latter part of the twelfth century, are still to be seen. Pop. (1851) 3463.
