Sr, a seaport-town of France, capital of the department of Côtes-du-Nord, on the right bank of the Gouet, near its mouth in the bay of St Brieuc. Lat. 48. 31. N. Long 2. 45. 6. W. The cathedral is a fine Gothic edifice of the thirteenth century. It has also a town-hall, hospital, theatre, a handsome stone bridge of three arches over the river, communal college, and public library. St Brieuc is the seat of a bishopric, and of tribunals of commerce and primary jurisdiction. Its port at the village of Ligue, at the mouth of the river, has a fine quay, and is accessible to vessels of from 300 to 400 tons. Pop. 9398.
