JOSEPH, an English divine, born at Halifax in Yorkshire, in 1612. After graduating at Oxford, he removed to London, where he established a school, for the use of which he published an abbreviation of Lilly's Grammar. Though he distinguished himself during the time of the Commonwealth by his loyalty, he was not fortunate enough to be rewarded with any church preferment at the Restoration. His works have little interest for modern readers, and are now wholly forgotten.
