a walled town of Prussian Saxony, the capital of the circle of Jerichow I., in the government of Magdeburg. It stands on the river Ilhe, on the railway from Berlin to Magdeburg, 14 miles N.E. of the latter. It has long been noted for its woollen manufactures, which still afford employment to a great part of its population. It has also several dye-works, and tobacco and snuff manufactories. Pop.
