Volume 6 · 60 words · 1860 Edition

(Italian busto), in Sculpture, the head, breast, and shoulders of the human figure.

Felibien observes, that though in painting one may say a figure appears in busto, yet it is not properly called a bust, that word being confined to figures in relievo.

The Italians use the word for the trunk of the body from the neck to the hips.
