a town of Hindustan, in the British district of Tannah, presidency of Bombay. It was formerly of larger size and of greater importance than it is at present. It was exposed to many sieges during the wars which were carried on between the Mohammedans and the Mahattas, and is now surrounded by the ruins of numerous forts. It is 32 miles N.E. from Bombay; and being situate on the line of the Great Indian Peninsula railway, will in all probability shortly regain its ancient prosperity. Long. 73.12. E., Lat. 19.14. N.
