or CALLIPUS, an astronomer of Cyzicus, who invented the period or cycle of 76 years, which is called Callistus after his name the Callipic. He went to reside at Athens, where he became acquainted with Aristotle, and engaged with that philosopher in rectifying the discoveries of Euclid. See CALENDAR, p. 79.
