the capital of the county of Ontario, in the state of New York, situated on the western side of the lake of the same name, 177 miles west of Albany. It is pleasantly situated, and has numerous elegant buildings. Pop. 6212. The lake is about 14 miles in length, with an average breadth of one mile, and by means of the river of the same name its waters are conveyed to the Seneca river.
