About 5 miles from the town, at the foot of the mountain, is the lake of Per-gusa, from the banks of which it is said that Proserpine was carried off by Pluto. Pop. 11,000.

CASTRO Amaro, a town of Sicily, in the intendency of Palermo, 25 miles north of Girgenti. Pop. 6500. In the vicinity there are extensive quarries of fine marble.
