a kind of rude raft, generally composed of three pieces of wood lashed together; used on the coasts of Coromandel and in South America, chiefly for conveying letters, messages, &c., to the shipping in the roads. It is particularly advantageous in crossing the heavy surf that always breaks on those shores.
