i.e., of Cateau-Cambrésis, a town of France, in the department of Nord, on the Selle, 15 miles E.S.E. of Cambrai. It is well built, and was formerly fortified. Its chief manufactures are shawls, merinos, calicoes, lace, leather, soap, starch, and tobacco. In 1559, a treaty between France and Spain was concluded here. Pop. 7600.
