in the vicinity of the above, bend in the form of a crescent round the Mohawk river; the loftiest peak rising to the height of 3804 feet above tide-water. On the east they are precipitous, but on the west side the descent is comparatively gentle. Many of the wild animals indigenous to the state are still to be found here.
