or CHATTI, a powerful and warlike German nation, who, though defeated by Drusus, Germanicus, and other Roman generals, were never wholly subjugated. Their territory extended from the Weser on the east to the Rhine on the west, and was bounded on the south by the Agri Decumates. Their capital was Mattium, now Maidé.
