a town in the Prussian province of Brandenburg, government of Potsdam, and circle of Teltow, on the left bank of the Spree, 4 miles W. of Berlin. The town is handsome and well built, the streets are straight, and ornamented with rows of trees. There is a magnificent palace built by Frederick I. with finely laid out gardens, always open to the public, and much resorted to by parties from the capital. In a secluded part of the gardens there is an exquisite statue of the beautiful and unfortunate queen Louisa of Mecklenburg. Pop. (1849), including the military, 9213.
