a city in the state of Ohio, North America, capital of the county of Ross, on the W. bank of the river Scioto, 37 miles S. of Columbus. It is pleasantly situated and well laid out, the streets crossing each other at right angles. It has many fine buildings, and is a place of considerable trade and manufactures. The Ohio canal and several railways pass through the town. Pop. 7098.
