a river of Hindustan, which rises in the centre of the province of Malwah, within 15 miles of the Nerbudah. From thence its course is due N., until it passes the city of Kotah; after which, being augmented by many smaller streams, it turns more to the E., and falls into the Jumna 20 miles from Etawah, in Lat. 26° 30', Long. 79° 19'. The course of this river is computed at 570 miles, described in a form nearly semicircular; and the breadth of its channel at the ford of Kytere, near Dhoopoor, is three-quarters of a mile. This river is supposed by Major Rennell to be the Sambus of Arrian. It is now the boundary between the Rajpoot territories and those of Sindia to the south.
