John, (1603-1699) an eminent Hebrew scholar, was born at Bremen. He taught theology at Leyden, and wrote commentaries on the Bible and other works. From his peculiar views in regard to a visible reign of Christ on earth, he gave rise to a sect who assumed the name of Cocceians.
