Volume 7 · 45 words · 1860 Edition

a metal discovered by Hatchett in 1801, in an American mineral. Several years afterwards it was rediscovered in a Swedish mineral, to which Eckeburg gave the name of Tantalum. Wollaston, however, showed that Eckeburg's new metal Tantalum was the same as Hatchett's Columbium. See Chemistry.
