a small market-town of England, county of Devon, on the Coly, near its junction with the Axe, 22 miles east of Exeter and 151 from London. The houses are mostly built of flint. It has a church with a fine screen and several interesting monuments, and an endowed school. Pop. of parish (1831) 2504.
