Sir Eyre, a celebrated general, was born in Ireland in 1726. He served against the rebels in 1745; and afterwards went to the East Indies, where he became commander-in-chief, and gained several distinguished victories. He died at Madras in 1783; and a monument has been erected to his memory in Westminster Abbey. See Hindustan.
