(French), in Fortification, a row of stones jutting out between the wall of the fortress which lies aslope and the parapet which is perpendicular; serving as an ornament, and used only in fortifications of stone-work. Cordon also denotes a line of troops drawn around a town or a district, in order to prevent ingress or egress.
