a celebrated Achaean demagogue, who roused his countrymen to resist the aggression of the Romans. He headed the Achaean army, and having been defeated by Metellus near the town of Scarphæa in Locris (B.C. 146), he either poisoned himself or perished in the marshes of the coast.
