the fruit or seeds of *Cuminum cyminum*, an umbelliferous plant found wild in Egypt and Greece, and still extensively cultivated in the East, as in the remotest times, for the sake of its aromatic seeds. These have a strong and rather peculiar odour, with a corresponding aromatic taste; and like anise, dill, &c., possess well-marked stimulant and carminative properties.
