MICHAEL, a Swedish portrait-painter of considerable merit, who came to England, according to Walpole, in 1678. He afterwards travelled for improvement in his art in France and Italy; but finally settled in England, where he died in 1748. The portrait of Charles XI. of Sweden on horseback, at Windsor, and the portrait of Lady Walpole, are among his best performances.
