that part of the Polar Sea lying between Greenland and Cumberland Island, and extending from Cape Farewell to Disco Island. It forms the medium of communication between Baffin's Bay and the North Atlantic Ocean. It was discovered by Davis in 1586; and is now the principal resort of whalers in the Northern Ocean.
