(Lat. densitas), compactness or closeness of constituent parts. It is opposed to rarity. A body is said to have double or triple the density of another body, when, the bulk being equal, the quantity of matter in the one is double or triple the quantity in the other. No body is absolutely dense; that is, all bodies contain interstices, or have a certain degree of porosity.
