DEODHUR

Volume 7 · 112 words · 1860 Edition

a town of Hindustan, situated on the north-west frontier of Gujerat. Its population consists principally of rajpoots and coolies. It possesses a citadel 150 yards square, which is well fortified; and it is surrounded by a wall and deep ditch. The town labours under a great deficiency of water, and is hemmed in by the jungle, which comes up close to the houses. It is the principal place of a small independent territory, which pays no tribute to any government. Its ruler, nevertheless, acknowledges the supremacy of the British; but the paramount power exercises no interference in the internal administration of affairs. The town of Deodhur is in Lat. 24.9, Long. 71.49.
