(Ital. depurare, to purge), the act of freeing any fluid from heterogeneous matter. It is of three kinds: first, by decantation, when the feculent matter will be deposited at the bottom of the vessel; secondly, by despiration, effected by boiling or fermentation, and skimming, or by clarification; and, thirdly, by filtration.
