in Antiquity, was the name of the oligarchic party or faction at Athens, as distinguished from the pediaci or democratic party. They derived their names, the former from inhabiting the upper part of the city, and the latter the lower quarters. The laws of Solon designed that Peisistratus should be the chief of the diacrii; though the scholiast on Aristophanes's comedy of The Wasps affirms that Pandion distributed the quarter of the diacrii among his sons, and put Lycas at their head.
