in Antiquity, festivals in honour of the Dioscuri (Castor and Pollux), which were observed with great solemnity by the Cyrenians, and very generally throughout Greece, but especially by the Spartans, whose country was believed to have been honoured by the birth of these heroes. At Athens the Dioscuri were called Anaktes, and their festival Anakria. Little is known regarding the ceremonies observed on these occasions.
