a market-town and watering-place in the grand duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, pleasantly situated in a valley, on a small river about a mile from the Baltic. Pop. about 3000. It is much frequented for its sulphurous springs and baths, and for sea-bathing. The grand duke has a summer residence here.
