a walled town in the Prussian province of Westphalia, capital of a cognominal circle, in the government of Arnsberg. It is situated in a fertile district on the Enscher, and on the Minden and Dusseldorf railway, 29 miles W.N.W. of Arnsberg. Pop. (1849) 10,532. It is the seat of a superior mining board, and has manufactures of woollens, linens, velvets, tobacco, nails, and cutlery, and some trade.
