(Lat. dux, and dotarium), that portion of lands or tenements of a man which his widow enjoys during her life, after the death of her husband; and which, at her death, descends to his heirs. It also signifies the property which a woman brings to her husband in marriage, and likewise any endowment or gift. It is sometimes written dowry.
