a town of Ireland, county of Down, on the Lagan, 84 miles N. by E. of Dublin, on the great northern road to Belfast. Pop. (1851) 1872. The chief branch of manufacture carried on is that of linens, and many of the inhabitants are employed as linen weavers. The cathedral or parish church, a mean structure, contains the remains of Jeremy Taylor, and other bishops.
