town of Lower Austria, capital of the circle of Upper Manhartsberg, on the left bank of the Danube, 5 miles west of Krems. Pop. about 400. Above the town are ruins of the castle in which Richard Cour-de-Lion was imprisoned on his return from the Holy Land.
