a village and watering-place on the coast of Sussex, 65 miles from London by the Brighton and South Coast railway. It is situated in a chasm between two cliffs; one of which, Beachy Head, is the loftiest headland on the English Channel. It is divided into three distinct parts, and is much resorted to for sea-bathing. Pop. of parish (1851) 3133.
