(Lat. ulna), a measure used chiefly for cloth, and varying in length in different countries. The English and the Flemish ell were those most in use in Great Britain. The English ell is 45 inches, while the Flemish ell is only 27 inches, or \( \frac{3}{4} \)ths of a yard. In Scotland the ell is 37\(\frac{1}{2}\) English inches.
