the largest valley of Switzerland, after the Vallais, is in the Canton of the Grisons, and extends from S.W. to N.E. between the Leventian and Rhaetian Alps. It is 18 leagues in length, with an average breadth of half a league, and is traversed through its entire extent by the Inn. The valley is rich in pasture, and a great part of the mountains are covered with pine forests; the climate is cold, and snow is absent only from June to September.
