in Roman Antiquity, certain priests, originally three in number, who were first created a.d. 558, by the pontifices, to superintend the epula or feasts in the sacred games and festivals. Their number was at length augmented from three to seven, and by Julius Caesar was increased to ten; but after his time their number was again reduced to seven. Like the pontifices and the augurs, the epulones formed a collegium at Rome.
