a celebrated astronomer and geometerian of Alexandria, was born at Cyrene B.C. 276. His father's name was Aglaus or Ambrosius. He was appointed superintendent of the great Alexandrian library by Ptolemy Euergetes, and died of voluntary starvation B.C. 196.
