a town of Hesse-Cassel, province of Lower Hesse, on the Werra, 24 miles E.S.E. of Cassel. Pop. 6050. It is generally well built, and has an old castle, town-hall, hospital, and several Protestant churches. It has manufactures of leather, tobacco, and musical instruments, and some trade by means of the river.
