a kind of torch made of thick wicks, covered with wax, and used in the streets at night, at illuminations, and in processions. Flambeaux usually consist of four wicks or branches, about an inch in thickness, and three feet long, made of coarse half-twisted hempen yarn; and these, being suspended by one end, are coated with white or yellow wax, which is poured over them from a ladle until the requisite thickness be obtained.
