a compound substance, consisting of the various softer solids of the animal body, and so denominated in contradistinction to bone. It consists chiefly of fibrin, with albumen, gelatine, extractive, phosphate of soda, phosphate of ammonia, phosphate and carbonate of lime, and sulphate of potash. The general term flesh includes the muscles, fat, glands, &c., though sometimes it is restricted to muscle.
